I can't describe the noise the first time you hear it. I've shot guns, and they're damn loud but they aint nothing compared to the din at Tap La. I had my head down for who knows how long, covering my head and ears. Then I figured 'hell, I started this thing, these guys are gonna be mighty pissed if i've got nothing to show for it'!
I popped up and snapped Smith throwing this grenade and about two seconds later the camera was blown out of my hands by god knows what. The lens was smashed, but I managed to get the film.
Our boys fought their way out of it. I could of sworn the whole damn Vietcong was coming at us but afterwards they told me there were only about three of them and laughed their asses of at me.
